Can we override the security system in a 1994 6 Speed Manual Transmission
Asked by brentkb Apr 24, 2015 at 08:11 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Our 1994 6 speed, manual transmission Corvette was stolen (key stolen, also). After
about a year it was recovered without the key. (Yes, we have the title to prove it is our
vehicle). We have taken it to three dealerships and one locksmith to get the VATS
code, but nobody can get it. Is this common? Can anybody suggest what we can do
or tell us if there is a way we can override the security system? We need to be able to
start it to see what the thieves have done in the way of damage to the engine. Thank
you.

Change the ECM,if key code can not be retreved, then code key to new ECM.
Thank you T_S_T for taking the time to answer. We appreciate it.
Also, you can by a bypass module for about $260.00. Its a PITA to hook up but can be a DIY job. Look up Newrockies, Inc. for there Pro module.
Thank you steveq. Much appreciated.
There is one other way. You would have to take the upper dash apart. Find the yellow VATS box made by Bosch. Cut the two yellow wires going into this relay box and splice them together. This will tell the computer the right key is in.
Thanks steveq. I'm not sure which way we'll go with this, but at least we have some options now.

you may be able to get vats bypass from midamerica motorworks
If you can get your key code fron the dealer it has the vats code within it there will be a number between 1 and 12 in the key code thats your vats key number

Or just buy all 12 blanks cut one to code and then make 12 copies of it or one at a time until you find the one that starts it. I had to do this with mine too changing out the whole ignition and rekeying it with the vats I was told is not a conceivable option even by a licksmith and is not the route to go about it
