Are spark plugs interchangeable for different years of the same model?

Asked by Matt Feb 15, 2016 at 07:50 PM about the 2000 Subaru Forester S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Subaru Forester, which came with four brand new spark
plugs in the glove box (the guy who sold it to me worked at a Subaru
dealership). Anyway, my Haynes manual says that the spark plugs (that I
have in the glove box) are for 2005 or later models and suggests a
different one for my year. In other words, will NGK FR5AP111 (used in the
05 model) work as a replacement for NGK BKR6E-11 (what's suggested in
the Haynes manual)?

I'd stick with the "6" heat range, and pony up for the newer iridiums so that you don't EVER have to replace them again!
