That's going to be your only option -- they make a wedge-shaped cushion specifically for this, it's also supposed to help with your back alignment when you are sitting, to make the ride more comfortable. Unbolting the seat and putting in spacers is another option, but not recommended as it can decrease driver safety in a crash. Plus you'd have to fabricate your own spacers or have someone do it for you. Another option is to find a handicapped-accessible vehicle shop -- one that modifies vehicles especially for use by people with physical disabilities -- and see what they could do to the seat to modify it.

thanks for the feedback ... here's what happened. After having the car looked at by several professional mechanics (who were horrified by the driving position), the consensus is that the existing seat is broken. The replacement seat has a back that has a normal range of adjustment. A relatively simple solution.
