2003 Subaru Forester Engine swap

Asked by McGeezak Aug 10, 2018 at 04:53 PM about the 2003 Subaru Forester X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine in my 2003 forester X seized on
me at about 102k miles.
I think it was related to the gaskets leaking
since the last time I had it serviced the
mechanic told me "it has some oil leaking
but I can't pinpoint where its coming from".
Well beside that, its been an amazing car
and id love to get an engine replacement.
I'm not trying to upgrade with a turbo since I
already know it wouldn't be worth going that
route so what would be the best Compatible
engine to install?
Thanks, Kevin

You could rebuild the engine you have or buy one from the same year if possible. Later EJ25 engines had variable cam timing and would not be compatible with your car.
