2004 subaru forester hatch won't always unlock

Asked by Guru94R67S Sep 21, 2020 at 01:06 PM about the 2004 Subaru Forester XT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

if I auto-lock the 2004 forester, the trunk hatch won't always release. I have kept
the unlock button pressed for 20/30 seconds- no joy. Something clicks, but the
heavier sounding latch release doesn't come.

I had the same problem on my 06 outback wagon , what I would do is pull out on the handle then hold it while pressing the release button on the fob. When this stopped working I replaced the latch assembly with a brand new one and never had the problem since. There are two different springs in the latch that get weak or rusted with time . Hope this helps.
