I have a 06 outback wagon and had the same problem . I've also seen a lot of posts on here about similar problems. I have over 5 years experience as a heavy truck technician so my approach it to take the easiest way first. I tested the battery first and then I did a voltage drop test on the major components of the starting / charging system . I found excessive resistance at the pos. cable connection at the starter , and alternator and the ground connection to the engine block. With almost 200,000 miles I thought it was time to replace parts and since I was going to disconnect the Alt. and starter anyway why not replace them at the same time. I replaced both with NEW not rebuilt units cleaned all connections and added anti corrosive paste to all surfaces. I have not had a problem since I did this two years ago. I live in Maine where it gets pretty cold from time to time. Bottom line kinda deal for you would be to clean ALL of your electrical connection cables of the starting/charging systems and verify results or failure .
