smoke/burning smell Subaru legacy 94.

what could the light smoke and burning smell? it starts as soon as I press the gas and the heat gauge doesn't say its over heating. it seems to be coming from the passanger side under the hood next to the motor. it has full anti freeze. and all fluids are good. what could this be?

a small oil leak. check for a damp spot on the exhaust near the head.
