Transmission

Asked by Cheyenne Aug 21, 2017 at 02:36 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 2006 Chevy cobalt and got stuck in
some mud and wet grass, while trying to get the
car out the tires of course kept spinning. When we
finally got the car unstuck the transmission started
to have trouble. When shift from 1st to 2nd I have
to let off the gas peddle and let it shift, it does it
very aggressively, kind of pops into gear. I changed
the trans fluid but I'm not entirely sure exactly what
is wrong

My 2010 cobalt 2LT was doing the same thing so I continued to drive it for 2 days until the check engine light came on. I checked the codes and it was shift solenoid A which is what controls the shifting between gears 1-2. I cleared the code and have not had a problem since although I have noticed that my fluid is burnt brown. The shift solenoids are extremely difficult to change on this transmission as they are located on the side of the transmission under the valve body cover which is blocked by the body of the car. Requires dismantling the front suspension, supporting the engine and transmission because you have to remove the one mount.
