95 Subaru Legacy, L series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I'm having some issues & hoping you folks on this
car forum could help a girl out. Lets start at the
beginning.
Monday morning I went for a drive, came back
home, later on in the day I had to go to work. My
car wouldn't start up. I can listen to the radio and
everything but it will not turn on. My dad said I
needed a Cam Shaft Sensor... But I need to verify
this is correct.. Or that I need something else. Also
read elsewhere that it might have to due with the
fuel filter. I'm not exactly sure what's going on but
I've put way too much money into this car. If
anyone could help that would be great. More
question's? Let me know.

check for codes. is check engine light on? blinking?you have obd1 so you cant use a regular scan tool.check codes. that should narrow down problem.
If you are where it is below zero you could have gas line freeze. For that get the red bottle for gas line freeze. It takes a while for it to work thru the system. Sometimes two bottles work a little faster.

Unfortunately a bad cam sensor will NOT always trigger a CEL. Have a trusted wrench check for spark as part of differential diagnosis. Used sensors are $10-20, but closer to $80-100 new now. They're just simple electromagnets, and there's one on each side, but they rarely fail in tandem. Relax, as this is probably a simple one. The bigger problem is the 21 yr birthday your Subie just had. Be VERY judicious with upkeep if you're fighting corrosion curves.

Check fuses under hood and kick panel before buying a sensor.
