Do you know if this car has ever had transmission work? It shouldn't slam into gear.

change oil and filter, your local shop should be able to do this for around $125

YES, a transmission oil change can't hurt, but, again, remember that you have a 20 years old car ... how many miles are on your car??

I'd have the transmission and the all wheel drive system serviced and carefully looked over. Sound like trouble.

I have 135000 yeah I believe it is in the transmission, I don't know if it's had transmission work done on it before, bought it used. I've heard spider gears, clutch in transfer case...?
