1996 subaru legacy wagon 2.2

I recently bought a 1996 subaru legacy wagon 2.2..Ran fine for couple months..About a week ago the check engine light came on.Also the temp needle read Hot but heater blew cold..No obvious signs of overheating-no steam..Neither fans turned on.When this started it was january in michigan.

Check your coolant system for any possible air pockets and check your coolant for oil mixed in and your oil for any coolant mixed in, it could be several different things but these are your first checks.

Also go have the check engine light code read.
