Gasket or cracked block

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a Subaru legacy 1999.   Car over heated.
Stopped immediately to find 2 puddles beneath
car.  A coolant and oil puddle.  I assume the
coolant boiled over  causing a puddle.  I did find
some oil in  coolant reservoir.  Would a new head
gasket fix this?

Replacing the head gaskets with proper multi layer gaskets could help if the HG's are the problem. I doubt your car is worth the money.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a response. I have removed the engine and removed the camshaft covers. I have seen no cracks but the inside of the camshaft casing is dark or charred. I believe I'll tear it down to head and place new gasket...and hope for the best. It's been a fun project.

Have the heads checked for warp and for cracks before reassembling the engine. Resurface the heads if needed.
