98 outback overheats

Asked by Christian Jul 27, 2018 at 05:15 PM about the 2000 Subaru Outback Limited Wagon

Question type: General

Ok so I have a 98 Subaru Outback. The car runs
fine. I can drive around to work and back no
problem. But when I push it to hard like say I do 70
80 on the highway when I get off the high way it
starts to overheat. Coolant spills out the overflow.

Now I know people say the head gasket but it really
doesn’t seem to be the head gasket. Like I said I
can drive it fine with no problem but if I push it to
hard it will over heat. There’s no coolant loss no
coolant in the oil. I’m lost can anyone help

You can service the cooling system and it might help but I suspect the head gaskets are going out and leaking compression into the cooling system. Slowing down might allow it to last a little longer.
