Where is the Location of the water pump in my 2002 Subaru outback

Do you have the 2.5 or 3.6? The 3.6 will have an entire flat front cover verses the 2.5 having accessories and a belt. As on the foresters 2.5, it's easier to see from below without the diaper (drip pan / plastic shroud - 4-6 10mm bolts). I don't even think you can see it from above as it is behind the plastic timing belt cover. But the water pump is offset to the drivers side of the block. The oil pump is in the center and is easy to identify with the two ports sticking out of it verses the WP with the thermostat housing attached. You could have a head gasket issue or yeah, your WP.

It's a 4 cyl. I really don't understand...I'm elderly and when I had it running in my yard I could see drip, drip, drip of anti freeze coming from drivers side in from wheel well close to eng. I dontknow what a timing. Belt cover looks like so that's why I'm having a problem understanding...The. Car has new heads, water pump, timing belt, therosate, all done last June or July...Maybe the stupid water pump just was a defected one..The car runs fine, no white smoke coming out the tail pipe, no anti freeze mixing in the oil, have great heat until it gets hot then cool air comes out until I park it and let it sit...The over flow tank loses anti freeze only because it puts it back into the radiator when it runs hot.....I'm not a mechanic , I'm a 58 yr. old women that is trying to figure this out...I think in my heart it's the water pump...Maybe i pellet is no good or seal let go...HELP

It ran hot 1 day and started leaking coolant,so I brought it to a mechanic & he done a pressure test and the coolant flowed out.He told me to place the rad cap half way to reduce the pressure. It hasn`t leaked since,but my concern is it doing damage to my engine.I`m running straight water now and have to check it all the time.

What are you saying 56? Your water pump is failing and he told you to run an open system so it wouldn't push fluid out of the weep hole? This is a temporary fix to "get you home" not permanent. If your water pump seizes, you're going to have way more work to do and a much higher bill.

Walth-by the way, the 3.6 H6 was introduced in 2010, the H6 engine in 2002 was a 3.0 H6...

Kathii444- You stated above that you got a new water pump last June or July 2015, it should have lasted longer than one year. Did you have your mechanic install a genuine Subaru water pump and genuine Subaru thermostat, this is VERY IMPORTANT....they have better flow rates..... sometimes it's NOT a good idea to go cheap.

Yeah, I meant to say h6.. Why did you resurrect this question? Just to correct me? Besides the fact that I don't care, the ez36 was actually used in 2008. Not everything is about the legacy. This issue was probably head gasket related anyway.

Walth-sorry, I raised it for clarification if someone should read about the H6 and get confused about what engine was offered for the Outback in 2008.... you are correct, the 3.6 was in the Tribeca...not however in the Outback...Kathi must have had a really bad mechanic, she said that she had the heads and all that work done a year ago?
