Subaru overheating after 10 minutes

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2002 Outback sedan, and it has been
overheating after 10 minutes. My boyfriend
replaced the thermostat, which did not fix the
issue. His uncle seems to think it is the water
pump, but googling seems to point to the head
gasket. We just replaced the radiator, as it cracked
during the thermostat replacement (human error.)
The coolant level drops but there's no puddle or
drip trail behind it.

So you replaced the radiator- that would explain the coolant drop- there is still air in the system- when people start blindly replacing parts without a diagnosis, this is what happens- on a Subaru that old, it is probably time to replace the entire cooling system- you might get lucky, bleed the system and it will be good- unless it is a blown head gasket- (you can tell by doing a compression test) in which case, you do NOT want to dump a boatload of money into that thing- just get another car-
Head gaskets are the bane of Subaru owners.

First back-flush the rear heater core hoses. Ensure that the replaced t-stat has the larger OE orifice. Then fully charge the coolant, tipping the car and adding smaller amounts of coolant between highway runs until all air is purged. If this proves impossible then find my simple procedure for testing for coolant percolation somewhere herein, as you absolutely need head gaskets if percolation continues.
My answer is one of a cave man (If one of This was replace heater core radiator thermostat or for any other reason there's air in the system Do this before throwing money away Disconnect any antifreeze house which is bout size of man thumb plug into garden hose n turn on N let air come out When a steady water stream comes out plug hose back on N enjoy
Hi I’m looking at 1997 Subaru Outback Nd it has over heating problems would it be the thermostat

Answer to upcoming post: NO, it's NEVER the OE t-stat. You probably have a fractured head gasket, an expected design flaw problem with all 1996-1999 OBs and Legacy LS. STAY AWAY!
