How do I get pressure back in my brakelines?

Asked by Jeanine Dec 17, 2015 at 03:57 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Astro Extended AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Saw a leak under my 2005 chevy astrovan.Filled my back reservoir up,still had
pressure.I parked it for several days,it drained completely out,no pressure in
brake at all.Filled it up again,no pressure and still a full reservoir.I can't locate
any leaks without pressure.

If the fluid is leaking out then you have a leak somewhere and the car is unsafe to drive. I would check calipers, the master cylinder, the ABS module and the brake lines. Don't drive it until it is fixed!

You will need to bleed the entire system start at one corner and work your way around. It will either take 2 people or a brake bleeding tool.

You need to pin point where the leak is originating from and replace that section. You don't want to take the risk of losing your brakes when you need them the most. When you replace whatever brake component is leaking then you will need to fill the reservoir and bleed the brakes to get all the air out of the lines. Always be thorough when dealing with your brakes!!

When bleeding brakes start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder to the closest...if it all leaked out when parked there is probably a puddle...if it is a wheel cylinder there will b a stripe of black brake fluid inside the wheel well...that much pouring out sounds like a broken line close to the master cylinder...ditto the do not drive it like that...

Also when bleeding brakes or trying to find leak have one person pumping the pedal & another looking not only for the leak but it can heard squirting out
