I have a 2005 Toyota Prius and my car wouldn't start after I left the lights on.

Isn't there a system that is supposed to turn everything off automatically when you turn the
car off? And if so, what is wrong with the car? A relay system?? It used to work that way,
but it doesn't anymore. WHy??

Many cars have automatic headlight control. Yours might be broken or your switch may have been turned on.
It must be the lights in the car that were left on; not the headlights. The Prius does allow the cabin lights to be on even after the car is locked. A jump-start cable is always handy for that rare situation.

It's also possible that the 12V battery - used for starting, needs replacing. They have a life of 5-6 years depending on age, miles. We have two Prius, a 2005 & a 2006. The interior lights were left on in the 2005 - twice and I used a light weight battery charger after the first episode, but after the 2nd, it stayed 'dead'. You can DIY. The battery is available at auto parts stores & there's a YouTube video that shows you how. (Don't know the URL - sorry). The battery is located at the right rear very near the right tail light assembly. BTW that battery is about 1/2 the size of a normal car battery (but costs relatively more) and totally unrelated to the hybrid battery.
