Many things could cause this : A miss placed distributor ,The electronics could of been damaged by the gas. Make sure the center of the rotor is touching the cap .Check for power with key on at coil. Never wash with gasoline. There are special cleaners for this.

When the heads where removed was engine at TDC of cylinder #1 of the compression stroke. If not pull all the plugs and plug the #1 with a rag.Bump engine over till rag pops out of hole. Then check your rotter. It should be fairly close to the # 1 wire. If its not distributor could be 180 degrees off.
