Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi...I have a 2001 4Runner. The rear window and wiper don't work. Several "chats" referenced a relay located "behind the driver seat" under a plastic cover. I don't see ANY fuses or covers or anything behind the drivers seat....HeLP...rear window and wiper not working. Where's the relay?

Tim, I'm a bit confused. Does "the rear window ... don't work" mean that the window is raised and lowered by an electric motor? Before you get too excited about the relay, you should check the condition of the wires where the pass between the tailgate and the vehicle body. Since your vehicle is virtually 16 years old, there is a high likelihood that a wire has broken or that there is a bad ground connection.
Check the obvious first. Make sure that the window is all the way up (closed). If it is open just a tiny bit, the wiper will not work.
Hello, I just spent $185.50 with my current Toyota dealer to find out that it was the wire harness. It was the wires located within the bellows boot that flexes when the hatch is opened and closed. I saw that they pulled the boot back. I checked it for myself and found one broken wire and several fractured insulations. I repaired those wires and BINGO everything now works fine. So my advice to you would be to check for fractured wires in the harness.
