I bought an 01 toyota 4 runner with no users manual. Also, I have never owned a 4wd. I need exact step by step instructions on how to engage and disengage the 4wd properly without damaging anything.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have tried to use the 4wd, but it won't engage. I need to know if it even works, or if my technique is to blame.

I own the same vehicle. currently, the 4wd is broken due to my abuse. to engage, as I recall, push the button in as your going down the road, then, let up on the gas pedal, that should engage it in high range. you can shift from high to low range while you are stopped and in neutral. sorry, that's all I can remember. I didn't get a manual with mine, either. they are available
