How many 2003-2009 4Runner owners have had to replace their catalytic convertors more than once?

Sounds very strange that you'd have to replace them so often. Unless there's damage caused by them being hit, they should last ages. I'd ask the dealer what exactly is failing in the cat, is it the casing, the ceramic insides or the wadding ? I've had many cars over the years and never had to replace the cat on any of them. What I'm also thinking is, that it's not the cat that needs replacing it might be the lambda (oxygen) sensor that's failing.

So my dealer told me I have 4 cats on my 4Runner.........really I think there are 2 precats and 2 cats, after replacing 4 Toyota cats at $1800 each I went with Magnaflows. Come to find out the precats where the problems.........would have been nice to know right away, they are $385 each............I wasted alot of $ for no reason follwing what the dealer said problem was. Toyota 4Runner owners forum is how I found out what problem was, not dealer.

One of my catalytic converter on my 2005 California 4Runner was stolen in Phoenix but it was the one without a censor, it cost $233 to have it replaced in Tempe with exhaust pipe with O2 bung and downstream O2 censor
