My car has a late reaction when I turn

I can't figure out why my 2000 Toyota Avalon has a late
reaction when I turn the wheel it takes to turn the wheel to
3o'clock  for it to just barely  want to turn

Badly worn steering gear. Have a mechanic inspect it.
