I have 2000 Toyota Avalon. Ever since I bought it in December 2011, the speedometer hasn't been working. Again the ABS/ BREAK light is always on while the car is in motion. Of late, the ant theft alarm goes off now and then. To avoid embarrassment, I disconnect the battery head when the car is parked and fix it back when I want to move. What are the causes and how do I correct them. Auto Electricians have tried in vain to correct the fault. What should I do?

www.toyotanation.com -- I found several owners with similar issues. The abs and speedometer issues are probably caused by a faulty wheel sensor. They seem to use the same sensors to retreave their information.

Dis you buy this car "As-Is, Where-Is" or from a reputable dealer ?Have the codes read and fix as required. What "auto electricians" are you taking it to ? The ABS/Brake light is a "Safety Warranty" item in every state just like catalytic converters are "Emissions Warranty" and should have been fixed for free if you purchased the vehicle from a reputable dealer. Since you say the "ABS/Brake" light is on and the speedo does not work correctly, I would tell you to go to a reputable Toyota dealer and have the car fixed professionally. If not only for peace of mind to know your safe while riding in it, but for the fact that it could keep you from a speeding ticket.
If you have vehicle speed issues, check on the wheel speed sensors. The wheel speed sensors at the wheels (one for each wheel with ABS) send their signals to the ABS ECU which after using them for its purposes, also computes what it thinks is the actual vehicle speed and sends it to the dash (speed and odometer) which pass it on to the ECU.
