2005 Toyota Avalon 380,000 miles---Serious issue Or simple fix????

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was traveling at 25 mph. I hit the brakes and the car died. I put the car in
neutral and turned on the emergency flashers. When i did that the dash
board lights began to flicker with the rhythm of the flashers. I parked the car
and the dash lights were still flashing but completely off and on in various
configurations with the flashers, I shut the car off. I shut the flashers off. I
tried starting the car, and it only clicked like the battery was dead. I opened
the fuse panel and could not locate any burned fuse. I attempted to start the
car again, all the dash lights came on, but no luck, seemed dead. I waited
another 20 mins and tried it because i was stranded. The car started and ran
fine. I traveled about two miles with no issues then the dash lights began
flashing and the speedometer began going back and forth. The car started to
die so I put it in neutral. I could rev the car in neutral and keep it running but
the second I put it in drive it would die. This whole time the dash lights have
gone out completely but the head lights worked fine. I got it parked. Opened
the hood, it was very hot, but did not read hot on the gauge. i let it cool
down. it started and ran fine but died the same way within 10 minutes. I put a
diagnostic computer on it, it says misfire, fuel too lean.
Does anybody know what is causing this issue. Also there was a foul egg
smell previously that i figured came from the catalytic converter.
