Car won't start

Asked by T_Camry Aug 13, 2016 at 05:10 PM about the 1993 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: General

I have a 1993 Camry that
doesn't want to start only
once in a while. When the
problem arises it will turn
over but won't start, it
sounds as though the
starter is spinning faster
with the high pitch of sound,
like something is not
connecting for it to actually
start up the motor. Almost
like there maybe a short
somewhere cuz only
happens once in a while
making it very unreliable.
Please help!!

Sounds like you may have a bad starter motor. Could also be a bad section of gear on the flywheel. One would need to remove the Starter for inspection and testing. Most would simply replace the Starter Motor and proceed from there with the diagnosis. You might visually check the electrical connections on both the Battery and SM. Look for a white powder. That's probably corrosion.
