My Camry doesnt accelerate as fast as it used to! but then all of a sudden it takes off like a rocket! then it doesnt idle as well as it used to

are you hard on the accelerator as in the transmission is slipping, or slow and easy? when you say used to, you mean back in 94, or like last month???

i would try doing plugs and wires. if they are original that would cause problems. also is your check engine light on? if so see why and that will give you a great lead on where to go. a lot of places will read codes for free or cheap.

If your car has over 100,000 miles maybe it is time to Clean out the Fuel injectors(Flush if plugs and wires are replaced. They will do it at any fast serve oil changing businesses like Jiffy Lube.I had a 90' Camry, same symptoms, flush(cleaned) out the fuel injectors and it rane tip top with even more smooth acceleration.

I had the same issue with a Camry 1994 automatic transmission. With a cold engine there was no problem, but after about 30 minutes the engine had troubles climbing a hill, and would shudder when stopped at traffic lights. The shuddering stopped when I put the car in Neutral, but was there in Reverse, Drive and the other gears. First I replaced the Temperature Sensor: No luck. Then I replaced the spark plugs, AND the spark plug leads. Problem was solved. My garage quoted me about US$ 180 for replacement and parts, however it's something you can do for yourself if you have the right tools. Good luck!
