1994 Toyota camry wont start

Asked by newstart0429 Feb 16, 2016 at 10:45 PM about the 1994 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have replaced the starter and it started fine for about 2 days. after that
back to intermittent starting, I hit the starter a few times and car would start
again. now it's been a month and car wont start again and tapping starter
does not work. I have replace the battery positive connection last night and
car stared 5 times in a row no issues. I woke up next morning and nothing
again. it does not crank or click. the lights inside the car turn on and when
you turn the key the stereo and clock dim a lot but everything else stays on.
I had battery tested and stated it was fine i also had old stater tested and
store stated it was fine but I did not believe them and bought the new one
anyways. I am lost now on what it could be. If the starter is brand new how
could it be bad day one.

It's either your distributor or your ignition module. I had the same issue on my '89 pickup and on my '95 Camry. Would start fine, then out of the blue, nothing. No click, just nothing. Let it sit for a day, then it would start fine for a few days, then repeat. I didn't want to spend the money on a distributor or ignition module so I wired a push button under the dash. You will need to open the wire harness under the hood and find the ignition wire with a test light. Once you find it, splice a wire from the ignition wire to the push button. Then run a wire from the button to the battery. When the car decides not to start, just turn the key to the ON position and hit the button. Car will always

start for you. I did this on both of my vehicles. Solved my no start issue without spending a ton of money on 20 year old vehicles.
