Have a 94 Toyota Camry, Sunroof only works in glide position, but won't close right in tilt?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 94 Toyota Camry, Sunroof only works in glide position, but won't close right in
tilt?  My sunroof got stuck open i removed the cover over the switch and unscrewed a
screw that loosen the window so could manually close it.  I replaced the switch, and
now it will glide open fine, and sometimes open in tilt position. When try and close it
from the tilt position it won't close.  If i manually close it, the car will beep when turn it
off signaling that it is still open.  Now i have water dripping from the glide/tilt buttons
overhead.  Can anyone help educate me with this?  Thank You

I'm no sunroof expert, but, I have read many posts on this issue. It's usually due to some little plastic gear that breaks. You literally have to tear out the headliner of the car to access all the mechanisms. Very labor intensive job. I don't believe it can be fixed from just opening the sunroof. I think if you pry off the map light cover (next to the sunroof) the motor is located under there. There should be a hex head screw to manually close the sunroof. You may have to remove the 4 screws that hold the motor in to access the manual close screw. If you can't get the leak to stop, you will most likely have to take it in to have it fixed. If you can open can close it a few times and get lucky enough to stop the leak, I would not open it again. You will have to spend a good chunk of money to have it properly fixed.
