Broken Speedometer

recently i was in need of a car bad so i bought one for a good price in desperate need
but after a few days i noticed the speedometer isn't working it stays at zero or 20 and
the odometer jumps as soon as i turn on the car and while i'm driving the odometer
jumps  around so i'm not sure if that's malfunctioning haven't really checked, there are
no check engine light on or nothing like that and it  drives fairly well. could it be the
speed sensor ? and how much on average would it be to get it fixed?

Since your odometer is jumping around also, I would suspect a bad gauge cluster. These clusters tend to go bad if you live in a state with extreme heat and mild or no winters. You can get a used cluster much cheaper than a new VSS. A new VSS is over $160 on Rock auto. But due to your odometer malfunctioning, I would lean more towards a bad cluster. Check Ebay or your local salvage yard. Once your speedo and tach fail, you will notice that the car will not shift correctly as well.
