my 1996 Camry has always had the "Auto-Lights-Off" feature until recently when it does not work anymore. Why would it stop working & is there an adjustment I can make?

I bought the car new & this feature has always worked. If I forgot to turn off the lights when I got out of the car, they would shut off after approx. one minute & would come back on when I next started the car. This no longer works as I found out when I forgot to turn off the lights one day & the next morning my battery was dead.

How did you deal with the "dead battery"? My understanding of this Auto HL System is as follows. If the HL switch is on Auto and the engine is running.....you shut the engine off...remove the ign. key...open the driver door...exit....close the door.....use remote to lock the car(one click)....stand there and wait 30-60 sec. the HL should Auto turn off. For other scenarios check the Owner's Manual
they will not turn off unless the switch is at auto

S0...when your headlight switch is set to "Auto" your shut your engine down.....remove ignition key...exit the vehicle....lock you car with the remote....the head lights go OFF. Is this correct?
