I don't fully understand your description but it sounds like it may have a bad ignition switch. I think you mean when the key is turned to "On" there are no lights coming on on the dash but when you turn it to "Start" it will start. Does it stay running and does the dash work properly when you release the key and let it return to "On"?

Same here..don't quite 'get it'...when you turn ignition switch to on, all the warning lights on dash should light, and it's supposed to chime with door open..what makes you say alternator is not charging?

Could be bad ignition switch or a blown fusible link

Thank you for your response.First yes there are no lights when key is turned to the ON position turn key to START position car starts runs and drive. When I say door chimes it should not chime while the engine is running.I also know the alternator does not charge while this is happening because the battery goes dead the next day.Alternator is good cause I took it off bring it to the shop and they checked it.

I have the same problem! Were your emergency flashers going at the same time?
