Does my fuel filter need to be replaced?

Asked by Steven Jan 20, 2016 at 05:19 PM about the 1998 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has trouble accelerating and getting up hills. When I hit the gas to enter the expressway the car makes a vibrating sound and takes forever to get up to speed. Suspecting the fuel filter but I'm not sure.

Do a tuneup, use a good fuel system cleaner, change the fuel and air filters and I think you will see an improvement.

I have had the same issue previously, you need to first try cleaning the mass airflow sensor with mass airflow sensor cleaner and also clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner (WARNING: DO NOT USE THROTTLE BODY CLEANER TO CLEAN THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR, DAMAGE WILL RESULT) it's easy to do and lots of videos on youtube. I recommend chrisfix and scotty kilmer. Something to note: some cars produced within the last 7 years or so no longer have mass airflow sensors. This fix has personally worked for me. Good luck!
