Car won't start using the lock cylinder

My ignition switch and starter relay switch tested
good , but my car won't start. I had to install a
push button switch inside my vehicle which is
connected to the terminals of the starter relay
switch. By turning the lock cylinder to start while
pushing the button is the only way of starting my
car. Do you have any suggestions on what I can
do fix this problem.

Need a wiring diagram and a Digital Volt/Ohm Meter. Have you considered a problem with the Theft Deterrent System....the Park/Neutral/Clutch Switch. Seems like the ignition switch is sending a signal to the computer to allow Fuel and Ignition...but..is denying a signal to crank the engine....thus...the wiring diagram and Volt meter is needed for accurate diagnosis. What Engine is in this vehicle?
If your '98 doesn't have a distributor cap, then I would say it's the ignition module. I have installed the old push button on two of my Toyota's over the years. They had distributors. I didn't feel like wasting a ton of time and money on figuring out which one it was since both vehicles were over 20 years old. I ran them like that until I sold them. Pretty good anti-theft device actually. I wouldn't waste the money on an 18 year old vehicle. Just run it and be happy that you can start it.
I do have a volt meter and the wiring diagram. My engine is a 4 Cylinders G 2.2L EFI DOHC. I bought my car used and I wasn't sure if the theft deterrent system was standard with my car or how it works. I don't have an owners manual and the Haynes Repair Manual doesn't mention one. I'll try your suggestion and work from there. Normally I wouldn't worry about fixing it, but my wife uses it occasionally and rather just turn the key to start it. I appreciate your help!
I believe the Crank Circuit includes the Ignition Switch...the Park Neutral Switch...and the Start Relay. Since the Start Relay is easiest to get to...I would take a Volt meter to the B-W wire at the relay. You should see 12-12.6v when you turn the Ign. Key to crank.
