Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My son's Camry LE 1998 , dash lights went out, clock and instruments still work, interior light also still works. Could it be the dimmer switch or possible fuse and if so which one?

Do the TAIL LIGHTS function on this vehicle? Check for POWER into the 15 amp tail lite fuse located at J/B #1 at the left side of the dash. Might be under the left side (driver side) kick panel.
The dashboard lights are probably running on a separate fuse then the clock ..

Sounds Logical but...think for a moment...on most of the Toyota's I worked on..... the dash "illumination" lights come on when you turn the Parking/Headlights ON.. The fuse indicated above I believe.... FEEDS these circuits through ..I think...a tail light relay. I could be wrong.

Was there any resolution to this issue?
Fixed. It was the fuse. Behind storage panel to the left of steering wheel, panel fuse. 7.5. Mini fuse. Was broken. Replaced , dashlights working again. Thanks

OK...nice job. I wonder what made that fuse go bad?

IF...that fuse blows again.....check the wiring harness in the trunk of this vehicle. This WH runs along the left side(driver side) near the left hood HINGE. Good Luck

Correction...that would be the left TRUNK hinge. Old people...you have to watch them like a hawk.
Forget all these answers they will make a easy solve into a major operation ..Like I said and it was true just change the fuse ..
I have the same exact problem with 2003 toyota camry. I checked the fuse where it says on the fused room cover (Panel 10 A) I checked it and it was good. Do not know why dash lights went off. Please help
Could it be the dimmer switch?
Yes, it was the dimmer switch which I was not aware of.
Guru5ZX2D, how did you go about replacing the dimmer switch. I am having the same problem with my 2003 Camry and cannot find anything helpful online. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Headlights, interior lights, tail lights and the gear indicator, seat belt light, E Brake indicator and door ajar indicator all still light up, however the brake light in the rear window, thermostat gages (excluding the AC and rear defrost, they still light up) RPM gage, fuel indicator and speedometer DO NOT light up anymore.
Jenn4223, If you go on ebay and look for the vehicle you are referencing and dimmer switch or dimmer "potentiometer" you'll find a seller im sure. Just replaced my tundras dimmer and it did not fix my issue unfortunately. Hopefully it helps you out
Scratch that. Dimmer switch replacement worked. Just had to turn it up lol
ok so my 92 Camry is having a dashboard lighting issue. the gauge lights work until I put the car into drive and then they go dark. any ideas as to what this could be? bad dimmer switch?
