My son's '99 Camry stopped running while he was driving,.

Asked by randyrs Sep 14, 2016 at 11:29 PM about the 1999 Toyota Camry CE

Question type: General

The car has a new battery {2 months old) and the radio was working after the
car stopped but it would not start. (car is an hour away from me) at his school,
The car, from what I understand. is making a sound like a weak battery
(clicking but not turning the engine over). I would think it was an alternator but
would this cause a running car to stop?

When the alternator goes out it will cause the car to use the battery until its drained and then dies starved of power, this does not mean the battery is dead enough that it will not run the radio. There are test, take it to auto-zone get it tested, I am not saying if its bad to buy from them as well that is your choice.

Buy an AAA membership for your family. Not only will you get free towing, they can also check out your son's car as well. Good insurance.
