Could be a few things, but i will throw a few at you, water pump,a lose or bad hose, radiator leak,or engine gasket blowed, you will just have to search for it.

Does "it ran out" refer to coolant ? did you refill "it" and did the coolant leak out? if it did than you have a coolant leak ''' u have 2 choices 1~~ u can fix the leak and pray you didn't blow the head by driving an overheated engine or 2~~ keep some 5 gallon jugs of water in the trunk and refill the radiator Evey time it gets hot. WARNING ~~ WARNING .. UNLESS U LIVE IN A WARM CLIMATE THOSE WATER JUGS ARE GONNA FREEZE

Sounds like you need to have a "Cooling System Pressure Test" conducted. Special tools and procedures are required. About all YOU can do is wait for the engine to cool down...fill her up with coolant...start her up and get down and under with a strong flash light and SEE where she might be leaking. If you can supply us with pictures of the leak...we may be able to provide you with more advice.
