5W-20 should work just fine but if your engine uses oil, try the 5W- 30.

Most Toyota have the oil type printed on the oil cap, it will likely be 5W-30, depending on make/model & year. If it isn't printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil. In warmer climates like you are in gives you the option to use the higher numbers specified for your model. Given the engine is in good condition, if your loosing oil between changes go higher (10W30) may can try Lubegard engine formula and/or go higher oil since its mild in CA. The first number on the oil can is winter and second summer. Even I use the term weight but in-fact The W means winter. So you have no need to be concerned about using a smaller number for winter in CA, Moving to 10w is fine, and advised if your engine is loosing oil between changes with no leaks elsewhere. I would use the second number 30 for Cally myself. I think the norm is going to be 5w30 but if your loosing some between oil changes and you do not have leaks or if it is turning dark fast or has tiny air bubbles in it, or very high miles go to 10w30 or use the high mileage oil in your specified oil I personal like Mobil 1 full synthetic for most of mine and use Mobil 1 full synthetic high mileage or extended protection oil in mine with high miles. Be sure to change oil more often in warmer climates, Even though full synthetic last longer I still change it before recommended as I too live in warm climate w/mild but not as mild as CA winters.
