Asked by brandan718 Oct 23, 2015 at 06:40 PM about the 2001 Toyota Celica GT

Question type: General

I have a 2001 celica, I bought a transmission
from a website that inports from japan. I was
told it would fit with no problems but now my
mechanic is telling me that my orignal has a
speed sensor and the jdm one doesn't, I need
help, I can email photos of the two trannies to
see the differences.

i dont have any photos but, usually the speed sensor in the tranny is used with the speedo sooo, im assuming in japan they have speedometers in there cars as well.... it should fit fine, you should be able to take the speed sensor from your usdm tranny and fit it on to the new tranny no problem.... is it manual?

Its an auto, but how come when I remove the sensor from the original I can see a gear looking thing from inside but in the jdm one theres nothing
