Celica oil weirdness

Asked by Nate Dec 20, 2017 at 08:48 PM about the 2001 Toyota Celica GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I've got a 2001 Celica GT.  It sat for three years and upon first start it leaked
all its oil out of the oil filter. So I replaced that and its been running awesome,
except for the fact that its burning oil at a alarming rate (after going for a 30
minute drive then an hour or two later driving back almost everyday or so for a
week I have to put a quart in it cause its below the dip stick)  and randomly will
shoot some oil out the exhaust pipe.  It seems like when I don't drive it for a
day or to it sprays a little oil all over and leaves a really small puddle behind it.
Is my engine almost shot?  I haven't put to much money into it yet so it'd be
great to know if it is before I do.

Thanks,
Nate

the valve stem seals dried out and leaking by vale stem going into cylinders and getting burned, you should also notice quite a bit of smoke coming out of exhaust on cold start. its not a bad job just time consuming.

How many miles on this Celica? The engine may just be worn out. Valve seals may be a way to start, but I'd run a compression test on it first, both dry and wet.

There are 163,200 miles on it. Thank you guys for the quick responses

If it was well maintained then it should have some life left in it, however, if it was abused and not properly maintained it may be worn out.
