What is this piece?!

Asked by A418T2005 Nov 07, 2017 at 06:28 PM about the 2005 Audi A4 1.8T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was cleaning out a clogged drain under the battery... This was part of the
handful of leaves I pulled out.

Any idea?

Thank you in advance

Looks like holder for something, It has push tabs that hold on to whatever its pushed into until its squeezed to release it and a hole on one side to hold what fits in it. May just be a leftover from some work done on it prior. The battery tray is the garbage can under the hood.

It's an end stop for the battery tray to adjust for different size batteries. There should be several rectangular slots in the battery tray that it can snap into. The Audi A4/S4/RS4 have the same body but can be equipped with a few different batteries depending on the engine size and region.
