The Neg- side of coil, which is in distributor. There hopefully is a wire coming out -- capped -- for use in the trims with tach in cluster from factory. It is either green or black

is this the negative side or do I have to remove that black cover on the side?
1996 corolla 1.6 l - You need the negative of the ignition coil. Where is it? Look at your distributor cap there's four thick wires running straight to the engine to power the spark plugs, its none of those. There's 4 other much thinner wires bundled together. It's the black one. If you're standing in front of the hood facing the car its the upper wire closer to you. You have to drill through the fire wall if you want to connect that to a remote starter or tachometer ---- I got that from

Sorry for the conflicting information. The forums contradict each other. But I do know that it IS the Neg coil for signal. Other than that, above is all I could find.
