2000 Toyo Corolla VE- VERY sluggish when accelerating and up to 40mph--It hates red lights and slow downs.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, My engine light is blinking, and my car feels like it is dragging from engine start, to up to about 40mph. (the sensation compares to trying to push a food cart with a bad wheel- how the cart feels like it is fighting the push) I’m starting to smell something from the engine.  I have put a gas treatment in it and it doesn’t seem to help. I just had the spark plugs replaced-since they have been replaced I am now hearing a metal tinkling sound at the start. Someone has said I may need a Coil for cylinder 1. And someone else said I may need a fuel pump or injectors since I ride on E a lot.   (Unrelated- I need a real main oil seal- too expensive-since they have to take the engine out- so I just put 2 to 3qts of oil in it a week.  My engine light has stayed on because of the misfire codes.    Any suggestions??

First thing that comes to mind is when you say you 'ride on E a lot' When you do that all that empty space in the tank is a perfect place for condensation, you probably have water in the tank even if that's not what the problem is. beg, borrow steal (just kidding don't do that) enough money to get some alcohol based water remover and FILL 'ER UP. Then let's go from there

And I don't know if the 2000 has the OBDII yet but either way see if you can get the fault codes at any large parts store..free..write them down and come back here

3 quarts a week? Ouch. keep close eye on that. Trade it in. There is a lot of work to do a main seal indeed...

Hey i got a 2000 corolla CE and I got the same problem. But I already had it checked out today and had a smoke test with the car cold. And he told me that I need to change the fuel injectors. But I would Like to get ur opinion on that. Ok
