1998 toyota rav4 when my odometer and speedometer stop working it causes the tramsmission not to work well what could be the problem

see if you can get any codes , not sure how that's done , there;s probably a sensor/signal that the tranny needs to hear from

Any codes? May be a problem with the speed sensor (VSS, vehicle speed sensor), the ECM needs to know the vehicle speed for shift points. Google or YT search for speed sensor location and symptoms/solutions. The VSS is usually on the tranny.
