Toyota Rav 4 2004 over 180,000 miles, fix transmission or get a new car?

Asked by Guru6THGD Mar 14, 2020 at 11:23 PM about the 2004 Toyota RAV4 Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need help making a sound decision over investing
in repairing the transmission on my Rav 4 2004 Or
getting a new car. Repair shops Quotations for the
overhaul ranges from 1,600 to 2,200 with one to 3
years of warranty. Asking around they tell me is
kind of a lottery for the fix to come out to come out
well, and that topically the car will not last long after
it. Please advise. Thank you!

Personally I wouldn't put that kind of money in a 16 year old vehicle with 180,000 miles on it. Every vehicle reaches a point where it's one thing after the other. When that happens it's never ending. You're just throwing good money after bad and in the end it's cheaper to buy a newer vehicle with less mileage on it! Hope that helps! Jim
