Hose Identification on 2005 Chevy Equinox

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Today I noticed that my Wife's SUV had a hose hanging out of the bottom
drivers side behind the front wheel.  It is a long hose that, at least now,
goes across the bottom of the vehicle (on top of the frame/suspension) to
the passenger side but I loose it behind/under the engine.  On the exposed
end, it has a white plastic connector on it which has a larger white piece
that can spin freely on the end (see photo).  There is no noticeable leaking
from this hose or anything dripping from above.  Wipers work, coolant level
is fine... for the life of me I cannot figure out what this is supposed to be or
what is supposed to be connected to!  The weird almost-cap on the end
isn't helping me either.  Without any noticeable changes, leaks, or ability to
see where the end goes (no way to get under it just now), I'm at a complete
loss as to what to look for to diagnose it!  Thoughts?

Maybe it is a drain hose for the cowl area or for the AC condenser. Does that cap allow any water through or is the hose closed off?

The cap appears as if it would let something through as it's not a full seal. It seams like a really long hose for the AC condenser but that does sound like a very good possibility!

Well, my wife thought I was nuts for trying the AC in 9 degree weather but I confirmed that both AC and heat worked in all configurations. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Do you have a sun roof? Could it be a drain hose that came loose from there?

Yes, I do have a sunroof. Seams odd that the drain line would go to the back of the engine for that but it wouldn't be the first odd thing about this vehicle either!

I'll have an answer for sure next Thursday when it goes in for it's PA inspection. BTW, David, the sunroof drain was the mechanics initial thought as well but we'll see for sure next week!

I wanted to update this and let everyone know that it was the differential vent hose that had come unclipped. Thanks again to everyone who helped out!
