My 2005 Malibu started to make a screeching sound, seem to be the motor, and it turned off one night and won't turn back on. What could be wrong with it?

Is the belt that runs your alternator and other accessories (AC, PS, water pump, alternator, etc.) still operating properly? The screeching may have been its end-of-life and you have now depleted the battery since the alternator will not function without it properly in place. If that is the problem then your battery will need to be charged as well.
