What is wrong with my sliding side door?
Asked by Keith Aug 14, 2013 at 04:57 PM about the 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
The sliding door on the passenger side of my 2005 Toyota Sienna does not work like the
other side. The door moves very slowly and if the van is sitting slightly uphill, the door
does not seem to have enough power to close by itself.
Any thoughts?

Check the plastic coating on the cables. its probably cracked and coming off the wire. The sheathing is probably binding up in the clutch assembly adding resistance and slowing the system down. Remove as moch of the plastic sheathing as possible and check the cable periodically for additional fraying. Won't hurt to grease up the cable to help protect the steel from the elements.
