Asked by rcmedic Feb 12, 2015 at 01:45 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got the "Service 4 wheel drive" indication. Used my OBDII (enhanced 9580A) which indicated probable bad  transfer case control motor. Bought a new one. Plugged it in to assure proper alignment of spine gear prior to install. 1st problem: motor rotated approximately 180 degrees from where it should be. 2nd problem: No indicator lights on 4-button switch. Replaced switch. Result is no change is either 1st or 2nd problem. Have tried pulling fuse for TCCM without effect. Should I replace the TCCM as well? How do I trouble shoot the one that I think might be bad?

After a great deal of frustration having completed the above noted tasks as outlined in my original question, I took a break for an hour or so to do some more research as it did not make sense that the problem persisted. Upon my return from my break and having done nothing else but try it all out again, everything works just the way that is supposed to. I truly do not know why not doing anything for an hour made the difference, but it did.

I had this issue driving down the highway. The person who installed my Reman Transfer Case was rushing evidentially. The t case motor was hanging on by the wires, the bolt had fallen out securing it. I towed it home, threw in a new one, and bam all gears back and 4x4 works like a charm.
