Asked by Daniel Dec 18, 2016 at 04:25 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer an I have to shift it into
lower drive instead of drive. Is the transmission bad,
linkage bad. It cost 1299 for a 2 wheel drive transmission
rebuild or 1399 for a 4 wheel drive transmission rebuild.
How can I tell if its linkage, solenoid or needs to be
rebuild. If you please call me at 5016250594 if I don't
answer leave you name an number An brief description
why you called so I know to return your call and it not be a
bill collector

Shift sensor on the transmission...there are two or theee sensors on these transmission. I bought my 05 in bad running shape for fairly cheap and put a lot of new and used parts in it to finally catch all the issues. I found a fairly nice looking trailblazer in a pull yard with a motor that looked well maintained and got all the sensors I could with the tools I had that day. Replaced all the sensors on the transmission because it was starting to do that same thing..since I was down there I changed out the tranny filter and gasket and put fresh fluid in it with a quarter of it being Lucas transmission treatment. It runs great now. No slipping..shifts nicely ..these trucks were built for an average temp all year round..they don’t handle cold well with the aluminum block. Anytime u tow anything in cold weather, u r more then likely going to spring an oil leak from the oil pressure sensor or oil filter area.. just tighten them back up and clean the oil off the block. The plus side is, they are very easy to work on. I’m a 5’ tall woman and I’ve replaced the water pump and thermostat, front main seal and balancer, all the sensors (use only ac delco for o2 sensors on these trucks) 4wd solenoid and the shifter solenoid in the shifter itself, instrument panel, coils and plugs, cleaned intake, replaced the vvt solenoid next to the cam sensor, just to name some of it. Easy to learn and can fix them on the side of the road. Be nice to it, change the oil with synthetic full or blend religiously! Make sure it can breath and check the 2ndary air injection canister below the drivers seat on the frame for sitting water by pulling one of the hoses..this is another common problem with them and burn out often. YouTube has video of how to delete this function if u can legally. Or relocate the canister to not be so low compared to the pump at the intake area.....great truck if u like working on them..hope I didn’t ramble too badly
