Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It starts fine and idles revs to about 3k and
boggs out staying at about the same RPM
with a small variation in RPM. It does begin
to sparknock after holding it wide open for a
second

Your vehicle has what is referred to as a rev limiter on it. It won't allow you to go over 3000 rpm with the vehicle in park. If you drive it does it still do it?

The factory setting on a 4.3 is 5200rpm for the rev limiter and yes they will rev to 5200 in park when running properly. However when in gear if you're easy it shifts from 1st to 2nd fine but if you get after it it boggs out and all but dies
